Germany’s Ruhr region was the country’s important industrial district. But with factories dismantled and collieries turned into venues, what is left? It is the people who made the region, who I portray, who worked hard, and got soft on the big hobby here: breading carrier pigeons. In the heydays, pigeon lofts were hallmarks of the district, everyone had a coin to bet on them. Now it’s a dying sport. But recently pigeons were sold to Asia for hundreds of thousands of euros - this makes German breeders look with disbelief: Is pigeon-sport having a revival in Asia? In this ongoing project, I want to find out.
